Families & Individuals

There is a range of housing types and programs that serves a spectrum of individuals and families ranging from low-income, veterans, special needs, survivors of domestic violence, migrant workers, farm laborers, seniors, and youth aged-out of foster care. Each housing type and program has different eligibility requirements and rates. 

For Subsidized Housing, the resident will pay approximately 30% of the household’s adjusted gross income. In Affordable Housing, the rental rates are already set but are lower than the average rental rates. Fresno Housing also manages other government-subsidized units known as Public Housing. Conventional Housing rates do not change based on resident income.  However, there are income requirements, and rents are set based on the surrounding market.

Senior Housing

While all of the nearly 4,000 housing units owned and/or managed by Fresno Housing are available to seniors, there are three residential complexes designated specifically for those over the age of 62. Rent at these complexes is based on an amount no greater than 30 percent of the resident’s adjusted gross income.

All senior units offer amenities and are maintained and upgraded by Fresno Housing regularly, to ensure an attractive, safe setting. In addition, Fresno Housing provides numerous programs for residents at these complexes.

Farm Labor Housing

Fresno Housing owns, manages, and maintains three year-round housing complexes exclusively for farm laborers. Child care centers are located near each of these developments. Funding for this housing was provided by USDA Rural Development.

To be considered for this housing, applicants must:

• Be a legal resident of the United States
• Receive at least $5,752.50 of income, annually, from an agriculture-related source
• Meet specific income criteria
• Families that qualify for Farm Labor Housing pay 30% of their adjusted gross income toward rent. The balance is paid by USDA Rural Development to Fresno Housing

Migrant Worker
Housing

During peak harvest season, April – October, Fresno Housing manages migrant worker housing complexes that can be can be rented by migrant farmworkers who have resided at least 50 miles away from the center for 90 days during the timeframe the center is closed. The units are furnished with beds, a kitchen table, and chairs. Families pay affordable, daily rates during their stay. The income source of the resident must be verified. The centers are subsidized by USDA and/or the State of California’s Office of Migrant Services.

Housing with Supportive Services

Fresno Housing is committed to providing quality housing with supportive services to individuals and families. The agency’s portfolio includes a variety of buildings scattered throughout the Fresno area, specially designed to serve the needs of residents who are formerly homeless, veteran, mentally ill, and/or disabled.  Several of these properties include “Renaissance” in their name, inspired by FH’s commitment to revitalizing buildings and transforming the lives of the residents. Apartments at all the Renaissance complexes utilize Project-Based Vouchers.
