Nikki Henry

Commissioner, County Board

Nikki Newsome joined the Fresno County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in June of 2017 as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). Nikki serves as a key member of the organization’s executive team and is responsible for the oversight and management of day to day activities of all EDC programs and contracts. Nikki is involved with the community and is currently serving as an appointed Commissioner for the Housing Authority of Fresno County, an appointed member of the Child Care & Development Local Planning Council, and is a founding member of Dress For Success Fresno.

Nikki was born and raised in the Fresno/Clovis area and is committed to advancing the success of our community. Nikki graduated with honors from Central Washington University with a degree in Psychology where she was recognized for her many contributions to violence prevention and sexual assault awareness on her campus. Nikki later enrolled at California State University, Fresno where she completed her Master of Public Administration (MPA).

Prior to joining the EDC, Nikki had worked for several years at a local nonprofit, Reading and Beyond, as their Bridge Academy Director. Nikki was focused on increasing opportunities for low-income families to increase their job skills and move into careers that would bring their families self-reliance. Nikki managed to grow the Bridge Academy into a national model that is informing policy at a state and federal level. Nikki also spent several years working in victim advocacy for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors through the Navy and the university system.
